| The Challenge |
The connexions South London Partnership needed a creative partner capable of initiating, researching, designing and producing a comprehensive resource for teenagers providing information, help and advice on everything from further education and careers to drug abuse and crime.
Although the programme is intended for all teenagers aged 13 – 19, It was decided to design principally for the 16 – 18 year olds, as experience has shown this to be the most active and interested group and one to which the younger children aspire. Preliminary research also indicated that the experiences and opinions of young adults already through university and into the workplace were eagerly sought after, even though they were no longer within the target age group.
| The brief |
Following the success of this approach, BEDA were appointed to apply similar principles to the Partnership's internet presence. A website existed, but was underperforming and in need of updating.
The brief was to populate the site without updating the existing appearance and navigation system, both of which had been designed by the web hosting company some time ago.
| The results |
BEDA undertook an extensive programme of research, analysis and copywriting to create new content for the site, enabling it to provide young people with an extensive library of essential information, advice, news and updates, linking to other online resources, helplines and counselling services.
A content management tool now enables the client to update and expand all areas of the site, and a noticeboard and forum will solicit reviews, questions and opinions from the audience. Planning also includes the facility to enable teenagers to submit creative and written work to a communal area if client resources permit.

The literature has been very well received and extremely successful in positioning the South London Connexions Partnership as being more 'switched on' to the visual and style priorities of the target audience than the usual run of government inspired intiatives and as such provides a good foundation for the creation of business and retail partnerships to help the programme grow and develop.
BEDA Design has recently completed the re-design of the Connexions North London Partnership's main website. This site also has full content management, is fully W3C compliant and represents a significant step forward in the Partnership's widening access programme.
